REMARKABLE TELEVISION SCORES ‘POINTLESS’ TWO SERIES DEAL

BBC One commissions 158 brand new episodes of Remarkable Television’s popular quiz show Pointless as the series continues to achieve ratings success on BBC One.

Remarkable Television, an Endemol company today announced that BBC One has commissioned two further series of the hit game show Pointless.

The deal will see Remarkable Television produce 158 brand new episodes, which will include 18 editions of Pointless Celebrities. Eight of these special episodes will run in a prime time spot.

Hosted by Alexander Armstrong and assisted by Richard Osman, Pointless moved to BBC One on 4th July 2011 and has quickly become a hit for the channel. The highest rating episode ever aired on Friday 23rd December, with a peak audience of 5.14 million and a 27.9% share.

David Flynn, Managing Director of Remarkable Television says; "There's not enough Pointless Celebrities on Saturday night television so it's great to bring our show to this new slot. We can't wait for more people to enjoy the warm, fun atmosphere that has made Pointless such a ratings success during the week on BBC One."

In Pointless, contestants test the depths of their knowledge as they attempt to find the little known or forgotten answers that no-one else could think of. Every question on Pointless has been asked to a panel of 100 people before the show - to find out the most obvious and the most obscure answers. Pairs of contestants compete for a cash prize by finding the least obvious answers - and scoring the fewest points. The Holy Grail is a pointless answer - an answer that none of the 100 people thought of.

The Executive Producers for Pointless are David Flynn, Tom Blakeson, Michelle Woods and Richard Hague at Remarkable. The Series Producer is Ed de Burgh. The series has been commissioned by Liam Keelan, Controller of BBC Daytime and the Executive Producer for the BBC is Pam Cavannagh.
